When a common cold turns into bronchitis
Even though Lindsay had worked through her yearly cold before, this time it wasn’t going away. Despite being sick, she was forced to work through long shifts at a local restaurant and bar.
Lindsay is one of 80% of restaurant workers in DC who don’t have access to paid sick days, and one of the 60% of restaurant workers that have reported cooking, preparing, and serving food while sick. Unfortunately, many of these workers are not covered under the Accrued, Safe and Sick Leave Act of 2008 – a law that allows some workers the right to earn up to seven days of paid sick leave if they get sick.
When workers, especially those who are handling our food, go to work sick, we’re all at risk of getting sick.
WATCH Lindsay’s story, share with others, and help us raise awareness about this issue.
